Blog Post 001:The Story Begins
Hey there! I’m Ashley, and this is the OG blog post for my photography journey. Yep, it’s the “About Me,” but we’re making this way more fun. I’ve always been obsessed with capturing moments—you know, the kind you want to hold onto forever. Whether it’s the golden light filtering through the trees at Dorothea Dix Park, the colorful chaos of the NC State Fair, or the energy around downtown Raleigh, I’m here for it. I’m still finding my style, but if you stick with me, I think we’re in for an awesome ride.
Why Photography?
Honestly, I can’t remember a time I didn’t love photography. My great-grandmother always had photo albums on every table, and I would sit for hours flipping through them. I was that kid wearing butter cookies as rings on my fingers, sipping Coke out of a glass bottle while she told me the stories behind every picture. I’ve always loved looking at photos, but somewhere along the way, I fell in love with taking them too. (Shoutout to my high school newspaper for making me an official staff photographer—thanks, guys!) From there, photography called to me at Appalachian State University, where I pursued a minor in the discipline.
Now, I’m a photographer based in Raleigh, North Carolina, chasing after that perfect candid shot, whether at the North Carolina Museum of Art, on College Game Day, or while grabbing a latte downtown. And let me tell you, North Carolina, especially Raleigh, has no shortage of cool places to explore with a camera.
What Do I Want for My Photography Future?
Someday, I hope my work finds its way into something epic like National Geographic—imagine seeing a stunning landscape shot I took while hiking through the Blue Ridge Mountains or catching that perfect waterfall moment at Eno River State Park. But honestly? I’d be just as happy snapping surprise engagement shots in front of the Eiffel Tower or even at a Taylor Swift concert (I mean, if you're going to get engaged, why not do it during the bridge of Love Story?).
For now, I’m soaking up all the moments I can here in Raleigh and looking forward to where this journey takes me.
What’s My Style?
I’m all about that natural, in-the-moment vibe. Think candid, but with just enough posing so you feel comfortable. I love to mix things up—whether I’m shooting sports, couples, or families. I want my photography to feel fun and accessible to everyone. The goal? You can look at the pictures and feel something. Maybe it’s happiness, nostalgia, or even a bit of wanderlust.
I also want my sessions to be lighthearted and easygoing. No stiff poses here—just good vibes, great moments, and pictures that make you think, "Wow, that’s me!"
What’s Next for Me?
Right now, I’m still figuring out exactly where I fit in this big photography world. I’ve done senior portraits, game-day sports, and individual lifestyle shoots (hello, Raleigh’s awesome cityscape!). I’m also super excited about shooting at the NC State Fair this October—because who doesn’t love capturing bright colors and happy faces surrounded by funnel cake and Ferris wheels?
And as for the future, I’ve got big dreams, people. From publishing photography tips on my blog to creating Pinterest boards with pose ideas and how-tos for those DIY photoshoots at home—I want to help everyone get the best shots, whether you’re booking a session with me or just perfecting your selfie game. Maybe one day, I’ll even write a guide to photography for beginners! Who knows?
But for now, I’m just really excited to keep meeting amazing people, capturing incredible moments, and exploring this awesome city. So, if you’re ever in Raleigh and see a girl with a camera, don’t be shy—come say hi! I’ll probably be around Dorothea Dix Park, the North Carolina Art Museum, or wandering around downtown looking for my next shot. Let's create something amazing together.
Thanks for sticking with me through Blog Post 001—here’s to a thousand more!
-Ashley
