The Heart Behind the Lens
Hi, I’m Ashley, the heart and creative mind behind Blue Ridge Photography. This journey began with my great-grandmother, a woman with a praying heart and a quiet strength that shaped generations.
Some of my earliest memories are sitting beside her, flipping through old photo albums as she told stories of our family. Some of the faces I knew as friends, while others had come and gone long before I was born. Every photo held a story, and every story reminded me of how deeply we are all connected.
She also told me about Jesus. She sang to me about how He loves all the little children of the world, and she prayed with a faith that still covers me today. I know in my soul that everything I have, including the way I see people, light, and love, began with her.
Why Photography Matters to Me
Photography has always been more than a skill. It’s a way to honor what matters. I believe photos have the power to freeze moments we might otherwise forget, not just milestones but the quiet in-between. The warmth of a laugh. A glance shared. A hand held. These are the things I love capturing most. The photos we treasure the longest are rarely the most posed. They’re the most honest.
A Psychology Degree with a Purpose
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, and while I didn’t become a therapist, my studies helped me understand people in a way that shaped how I work. I believe that when someone feels seen, understood, and safe, their true personality shines. That’s when the best photos happen. My sessions are relaxed and personal, with space to breathe, laugh, and be yourself.
Blue Ridge Photography exists to glorify God through creativity, connection, and light. I carry the prayers of the women who came before me, especially the one who first showed me the power of both faith and photographs. Every session I shoot is a small act of gratitude for the life I’ve been given and the love I get to witness through my lens.
This work is worship. It’s legacy. It’s joy.
Inspired by the World Around Me
I find inspiration everywhere — from the quiet mountains of North Carolina to the streets of Paris or the coasts of Italy. Whether I’m traveling far or photographing close to home, I carry the same approach: show up with purpose, look for the light, and tell the truth of what I see. The stories that unfold in front of me, big or small, all deserve to be honored.
